Learn to Save Tomato Seeds
Join us Thursday, September 1 from 1 to 2pm to learn how to save tomato seeds using the “fermentation process,” a method that promotes healthy, viable seeds to grow in future seasons.
Participants will learn hands-on how to harvest tomato seeds and properly clean them after fermentation has happened. We’ll also discuss best seed storage options and learn about other seeds we can easily save from our gardens. Bring your questions!
These tomato seeds will be available at the Innisfil Seed Library at the Cookstown & Lakeshore branches of the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library next spring.
The Innisfil Seed Library is excited to partner with the Town of Innisfil and the Rizzardo Health & Wellness Centre for a free weekly vegetable and herb gardening program throughout the summer.
This hands-on program will evolve each week as the plants grow and mature. You may register for one session or the whole series!
You can expect to learn:
What plants that are best suited for container gardening
How to maintain a healthy container garden
Companion planting and incorporating flowers into your vegetable/herb garden to attract pollinators
How to harvest veggies and herbs for continuous harvest throughout the season
Succession planting
How to save seeds later in the season
Not only is this an opportunity to learn about growing food but it's also a great way to help increase food security in our community as fresh produce will be donated to the Troy Scott Community Fridges.
